Biggest news---The CW is officially on crack—they bring back 7th Heaven & cancel Everwood! Booo Bah! Hiss! TV Guide interviewed Dawn Ostroff (The CW Head Idiot) and she said that once they decided to keep 7th Heaven, they had to get rid of Everwood. Apparently they didn’t think Everwood could lead Monday night & they were impressed with the Series Finale numbers of 7th Heaven. Ok, it blows my mind that I understand something that the head of a network doesn’t. When it is the “series finale” of something, usually you get an inflated audience. I don’t watch Will & Grace or The West Wing anymore but I fully intended to watch the finales just to see how they wrapped things up. It doesn’t mean if the show got renewed I’d continue to watch it. Stupid, stupid people. I really need to head up a network.
Holy Crap! Next year’s schedule is choc full of names & faces that I know but haven’t seen in a while. I was excited enough to have some more Balthazar, but not comes word that Johnny Lee Miller is in a CBS show! How frikkin awesome is that! I loooove Johnny Lee Miller! Ever since Hackers I’ve been waiting for him to become a huge star and nothing ever happens! So yay! Even if his show doesn’t last too long, at least I’ll get to see him for a little while. See below for CBS’s new shows. There are lots of names in there that you should know. Don’t know how excited I am about any of these premises, but the cast might influence me to watch the first episode.
The Class
Former elementary-school classmates who have lost touch are brought together 20 years later, and find out they have more in common than their third-grade teacher. The only name I recognized from the cast was Jason Ritter, who is John Ritter’s son.
Jericho
A small town is cut off from the rest of the world after a nuclear disaster.
Skeet Ulrich ("Scream”), Ashley Scott ("Birds of Prey")
Shark
A celebrity lawyer gives up private practice to become a prosecutor.
James Woods , Jeri Ryan ("Boston Public," "The O.C.")
Smith
A team of career criminals plans and executes elaborate, high-stakes heists, while its leader tries to keep up appearances of a normal life.
Ray Liotta ("Goodfellas"), Virginia Madsen ("Sideways"), Amy Smart ("Road Trip” "Felicity"), Jonny Lee Miller ("Hackers")
Midseason:
3 LBS
A brilliant neurosurgeon (Stanley Tucci) takes a rising star in the field under his wing.
Rules of Engagement
Two couples and their single friend, all at different stages in their relationships, deal with the complications of dating, commitment and marriage.
Paulo Costanzo (Road trip)
--This show comes courtesy of Adam Sandler
Waterfront
Follows the colorful, occasionally rule-breaking, mayor of Providence, R.I.
Joe Pantoliano ("The Sopranos,") Mary Stuart Masterson ("Fried Green Tomatoes”, "Some Kind of Wonderful"), William Baldwin ---You can’t fool me William! You will always be Billy Baldwin to me!!!! Larenz Tate ("Love Monkey", “Crash”)
The CW’s new shows
The Game (Sundays, 9)
In this spin-off of "Girlfriends," a woman is about to learn the realities of dating a pro football player, the glitz and the disadvantages.
Runaway (Mondays, 9)
A man wrongfully accused of murder packs up his family and moves them to Iowa under assumed names. Things become dangerous, though, when both the law and the real killer begin sniffing around. I’m down with Donnie Wahlberg, but ugh, I hate Leslie Hope. She was Terri Bauer (Jack’s wife in season 1 of 24) and Amy’s super annoying professor this year on Everwood. But yeah, Donnie rules!!!.
Fox’s new shows!!!
Happy Hour (Thursdays, 8:30)
A small-town guy moves to Chicago, has his heart broken and moves in with a wannabe “Rat Packer” who vows to remake him.
Justice (Wednesdays, 9)
High-profile defense lawyers work to get their wealthy and famous clients out of trouble. I don’t know about this one, but it stars Spy Daddy (Victor Garber-Alias) and Jack from the Creek (Kerr Smith!!)
Standoff (Tuesdays, 8)
Hostage negotiators balance work and personal relationships.
Stars: Ron Livingston ("Office Space", “Swingers”), Michael Cudlitz (ok this guy, we’ve all seen before but I never knew his name. This season he was the prison guard that TeaBag killed on Prison Break, he’s also been on buffy & 90210, when you see his face, you’ll know), Gina Torres ("Firefly", “Angel”, “Alias”)
'Til Death (Thursdays, 8)
A happy newlywed couple (the kid that had sex with Stifler’s mom in the American Pie movies) move in next to a husband and wife (Brad Garrett & Joely Fisher) who have been married for more than 20 years and have quite a different view on matrimony.
Vanished (Mondays, 9)
When an FBI team begins to investigate the disappearance of a senator's wife, what looks like a simple missing persons case unfolds into a vast conspiracy with national security issues at stake.
So that’s about it. Don’t forget to check out the excel sheet with the schedule for next year; and I have to say, at first glance, I’m not going to have too many conflicts this year (now that my tivo can record two things at once I’m golden!)
