KT Update-I'm oozing with comic con scoop!

I’m oozing with Comic Con Scoop!!! Before I get to that, I have attached the Fall 07 schedule including premiere dates. Next month I’ll give you the full scoop on what shows are buzzing and which ones will be lucky to make it to episode 3.

What you don’t know what Comic con is? Even if you are not an entertainment obsessed “fan boy” or “fan girl” you should have a bit of an idea of what Comic Con is if you watch Entourage. Anyhoo, for those of you who are completely unaware, Comic Con is held in San Diego and directors, actors & other Hollywood folk come to “premiere” fun secrets of upcoming tv & movies to dedicated fans (i.e. over the top freaks) so that they can spread the word of their approval or loathing to the public via the internet. Don’t kid yourself, I would have given my right arm to be there, especially after I found out that the Whedon was there and that there was a raffle to have dinner with him! EEEEEE
Panels included tv shows (Lost, Heroes and upcoming movies Iron Man, Star Trek & Indy IV)….I’ve scored some scoopage below, check it out.

The big movie news, as far as I’m concerned, is that during the Indy V panel Spielberg and Ford introduced Indy’s leading lady, Karen Allen, who if you watched Raiders of the Lost Arc, you will know as Indy’s original female counterpart. I saw a little snippet on youtube, and everyone looked very excited to be part of this movie—even though Harrison looks a little old in his Indy get up. You can check it out here. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/33487

-Edward Norton discussed his involvement & excitement on working on the Hulk. Apparently he re-wrote the scripts (not known if he re-wrote all of it or just pieces). But the fan boys seemed to like him because he ran through his history of being a hulk fan since childhood.

-Apparently JJ Abrams is working on some super secret disaster movie, I went to the website and couldn’t figure out what the hell was going out. It was just a bunch of polaroids that moved around. 1-18-08.com site. Too much work for a movie that doesn’t even have a title! I’ll just wait for the trailer. In more tangible JJ news, at the Star Trek panel he announced that Sylar from Heroes will be Spock in the movie and that old Spock (Leonard Nimoy) will make an appearance in the film.

From the Lost panel:
-Season four will feature both flashbacks and flash-forward
-At least one whole episode will follow Jack and Kate’s adventures away from Dharma Island.
-Michael will return to the Island (no word if that would be in the present or flash forward/backward style)
-We will finally find out Libby’s story.
-Rousseau will likely get a flashback in seasons four or five.

From the “Heroes” panel:
-Kevin Smith will write and direct an episode of the spin-off miniseries “Heroes: Origins”
It looks as if Nathan, Ando, Sylar, Peter & Parkman will all be alive and well for season 2..

From the “24” panel:
-In case you haven’t heard, there will be a female president.
-Season 7 will be based in DC, with Jack Bauer in hot water, facing the U.S. Senate over perceived crimes.
-The first plotline for season 7 had Jack in Africa and would have broken the traditional 24 mold, as they would have had to skip ahead 12 hours so viewers wouldn’t have to watch 12 episodes of Jack on a plane. Anyhoo, that idea was scrapped because apparently it wasn’t very good.

From the Whedon panel:

- The Whedon just finished writing "the horror film to end all horror films -- literally" with fellow Drew Goddard (who also worked on Buffy & Angel). It's called “Cabin in the Woods.” Yikes, I’m scared of a real Joss horror movie!! But how could I not go!!!

* The Whedon will write two issues of "Buffy: Season Eight" (which returns this month eh!!) He later added that while he doesn't know how long Season 8 will be ("I can't stop writing the Buffy comic. It's like a drug."), he "definitely knows how it ends and he knows how Season 9 begins."

* Oz will return. Faith the Vampire Slayer won’t be the only old character reintroduced in issue six of the “Buffy: Season Eight” comic.

* The Whedon says there will be more Fray. (yay!!)

* Whedon has a new web comic called “Sugarshock” at myspace.com/darkhorsepresents

*“Ripper,” a Rupert Giles-centric BBC project Joss Whedon has been talking about since the fifth season of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” may come to fruition in 2008. (double yay!)

*Goners - Joss is in the process of rewriting the fantasy/thriller and is his primary focus.

*Serenity - A new comic is launching in late Winter from Dark Horse. When someone shouted out for a sequel to the film, Joss responded by saying the new DVD edition of was coming out because "people keep buying the damn thing," implying that it's a possibility.

*He's also composing the score for a short ballet he's doing with Summer Glau (River). The crowd dug the idea prompting Joss to state in surprise, "Boy, was I expecting silence." Entitled The Serving Girl, he's already found a choreographer and will film it once he's finished the score.

*Angel: After The Fall - The comic he's working on with Brian Lynch, who will be the writer. It will be a twelve-issue maxi-series from IDW that shows what happens after the series finale battle with the evil law firm known as "Wolfram and Hart. " "What happens is very bad.”

A fan brought up the possibility of Joss directing the seventh and last Harry Potter film when the time comes. Whedon expressed his interest in his usual understated manner - "Yeah, I could probably find a weekend for that." EEEEE have Frikkin Fantastic would that be!!! Holy Crap, I know it won’t happen but it gives me goose bumps just to consider it!!

The two shows that got the most buzz where Chuck (Mondays, 8 NBC) & Pushing Daisies (Wed. 8, ABC). And also there is a show that I won’t mention from the shunned network.

I heard that the Bionic Woman & the Sarah Connor Chronicles were eh-eh. I doubt I’ll watch either of those anyway.

I think that was the most of the news that I got from comic con. I’m patrolling the net because apparently Jon Faverau debuted some new Iron Man footage (a new Marvel comic super hero movie starring Robert Downy Jr & Gwyneth Paltrow) and all the fan boys went yahooey over it.

In other non, comic con news, I reported last week that I was going to give the Angel-look-alike show Moonlight a try because David Greenwalt (who worked on buffy and angel) was in charge & also because Logan from VM had been cast. Well now David Greenwalt is out (due to alleged health reasons) so I’m a bit worried for the show. Word is that they’ve completely reworked the script and that can never be good news! Finally, Rob Thomas (creator of VM) has left ABC’s Miss/Guided. Good, now he can focus on the important things, like bringing me a Veronica Movie!!!

So that about wraps it up for today. I finished Potter Book 7 which I won’t discuss here because I know some of you haven’t read it yet, wait for the movies or are just way, way behind. But if you need someone to discuss it with, you know how to find me.

I’ll be back next week with some movie reviews!

KT Update-It is July and we're already talking fall tv!!

Well I started writing a KT update a few weeks back with a whole tirade about how I’m breaking up with Britney. But, now I have too much scoopage to go into all that, so suffice it to say that I could handle britney’s time with K-Fed, her drunken mess of a self after, even the head shaving and multiple trips to rehab, all that time I still had hope of a comeback. But after seeing all this business about giving her mom Lynne, (who could possibly be the best show business mom ever) documents prohibiting her from seeing her grandchildren (and to add insult to injury, Britney tipped off the paparazzi to capture the event) I am so done with her. She is trash, trash, trash and I hope all of her future stuff bombs (that’s not to say I won’t partake & enjoy in pre-trash musical fun)…moving on.

Lots & Lots of tv news:

Let’s start off with casting scoop.
I’m very happy to report that Jason Dohring (Logan from VM) has been cast in Moonlight. Now, if you will recall from a previous KT update, this is the synopsis for Moonlight:
“ Dude, you’ve got to BE KIDDING ME!!! I just read the synopsis for this show and I am flabbergasted. Check it out and let me know if it sounds vaguely familiar. A vampire for 60 years, Mick St. James works as a private investigator, dealing with the difficulties of immortality, a slew of undead adversaries and his love for a mortal woman. !!!!!!!! So, pretty much this show is Angel, without David Boreanz, SMG, and Joss Whedon. So, why should I watch it?”

Well, I’m at least going to check it out because Jason Dohring is going to be a vampire and second David Greenwalt is the exec producer. His past credits include producing kidnapped, Buffy, Angel & the X-Files. But this is what he had to say at the Television Critics Association Tour last week:
“Moonlight is not Angel, his last show about a Los Angeles-based vampire detective. There are no other demons, no other monsters," he says. "It's a sleek modern world. The whole look and feel of the show is different." He adds that it nonetheless has all of his favorite things: "Deep heart, big love and funny."

So we’ll see. I’m willing to give it a chance, if only just to see my Jason Dohring on the tube again.

Everyone’s favorite PR nightmare Isaiah Washington has signed on to join The Bionic Woman. I think he is an exceptional actor who just needs to keep his mouth shut, it will be interesting to see how he gets along with the cast.

Nathan Fillion, who I adore but can’t seem to catch a break, will be on Desperate Housewives this year play the husband of Dana Delaney.

Danny Glover will join Brothers & Sisters as a love interest for Nora.

Fall TV Tidbits

I had every intention of getting Friday Night Lights on dvd this summer & catching up before the fall season starts, but now I’m feeling like the show’s outlook is not so good and the season hasn’t started yet. The NBC big wig that most supported the show and since his departure his tag team replacement has shelved FNL re-runs (which is how you get people interested in a show if they missed it last fall) and added The Apprentice back to the schedule. Ummm, who hires these people! I wish there was a reality show where contestants battled it out to be the President of a network for a year. I would kill on that show and my network would rock!! Rock I tell you!!! Anyhoo, I’m holding off on renting those FNL dvds until I see how long it lasts this year.

I just want to reiterate that even though 3 of the 4 shows with the most buzz this year are coming from the CW, my ban on the network will continue. I will not support the network that took my Everwood & Veronica Mars and kept One Tree Hill. So I’m not even going to tell you which shows are buzzing! Only that Pushing Daisies, which will be on ABC is the other one.

I’m compiling the premiere dates for the fall schedule, just waiting on ABC to announce theirs.

Emmy nominations came out the other day and truth be told, I didn’t even know till the Mozz emailed me. Really, I’m so over the emmy’s. Tony Shaloub again? Snore. I will say though, that I was happily surprised to see Neil Patrick Harris & Kevin Dillion get recognized for best supporting actor. And the scrubs musical episode was nominated for best direction and best song. Other than that…..ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz. Next week I’ll send out my annual outstanding performances list which recognizes the people and the storylines that rocked this year.

Switching gears for a moment, Michael & I saw Waitress last week and I highly recommend it. Kerri Russell was awesome and I was happy to see that Nathan Fillion was in the cast. Hooray! This movie was quirky, sweet and in the end, happy. Good times!

I’ve also caught Potter 5 and liked it a lot. I think it might be my favorite movie. The book was so miserable and the movie moved it along very well. I’m so scared to read 7!!!

The last bit of news I want to end on is that it looks as if the Sex & the City movie is going to happen. I’m trying to think happy thoughts, but I feel like this could be a tricky movie to pull off. I felt like everything ended so happy & tidy, why ruin it? Why not invest in an Arrested Development or Veronica Mars movie instead?

That’s all for now folks. I’m going to spend the rest of the day waiting by my mailbox for Potter. I’m very, very scared of this book and I’m going to lock myself in my room until I finish it.
I’ll be back next week to chime in with the performances that moved me the most this year, a broadway update and also to give my two cents on all the young Hollywood hoochies (so over them all).

Until then—KT out.
