Biggest news---The CW is officially on crack—they bring back 7th Heaven & cancel Everwood! Booo Bah! Hiss! TV Guide interviewed Dawn Ostroff (The CW Head Idiot) and she said that once they decided to keep 7th Heaven, they had to get rid of Everwood. Apparently they didn’t think Everwood could lead Monday night & they were impressed with the Series Finale numbers of 7th Heaven. Ok, it blows my mind that I understand something that the head of a network doesn’t. When it is the “series finale” of something, usually you get an inflated audience. I don’t watch Will & Grace or The West Wing anymore but I fully intended to watch the finales just to see how they wrapped things up. It doesn’t mean if the show got renewed I’d continue to watch it. Stupid, stupid people. I really need to head up a network.
Holy Crap! Next year’s schedule is choc full of names & faces that I know but haven’t seen in a while. I was excited enough to have some more Balthazar, but not comes word that Johnny Lee Miller is in a CBS show! How frikkin awesome is that! I loooove Johnny Lee Miller! Ever since Hackers I’ve been waiting for him to become a huge star and nothing ever happens! So yay! Even if his show doesn’t last too long, at least I’ll get to see him for a little while. See below for CBS’s new shows. There are lots of names in there that you should know. Don’t know how excited I am about any of these premises, but the cast might influence me to watch the first episode.
The Class
Former elementary-school classmates who have lost touch are brought together 20 years later, and find out they have more in common than their third-grade teacher. The only name I recognized from the cast was Jason Ritter, who is John Ritter’s son.
Jericho
A small town is cut off from the rest of the world after a nuclear disaster.
Skeet Ulrich ("Scream”), Ashley Scott ("Birds of Prey")
Shark
A celebrity lawyer gives up private practice to become a prosecutor.
James Woods , Jeri Ryan ("Boston Public," "The O.C.")
Smith
A team of career criminals plans and executes elaborate, high-stakes heists, while its leader tries to keep up appearances of a normal life.
Ray Liotta ("Goodfellas"), Virginia Madsen ("Sideways"), Amy Smart ("Road Trip” "Felicity"), Jonny Lee Miller ("Hackers")
Midseason:
3 LBS
A brilliant neurosurgeon (Stanley Tucci) takes a rising star in the field under his wing.
Rules of Engagement
Two couples and their single friend, all at different stages in their relationships, deal with the complications of dating, commitment and marriage.
Paulo Costanzo (Road trip)
--This show comes courtesy of Adam Sandler
Waterfront
Follows the colorful, occasionally rule-breaking, mayor of Providence, R.I.
Joe Pantoliano ("The Sopranos,") Mary Stuart Masterson ("Fried Green Tomatoes”, "Some Kind of Wonderful"), William Baldwin ---You can’t fool me William! You will always be Billy Baldwin to me!!!! Larenz Tate ("Love Monkey", “Crash”)
The CW’s new shows
The Game (Sundays, 9)
In this spin-off of "Girlfriends," a woman is about to learn the realities of dating a pro football player, the glitz and the disadvantages.
Runaway (Mondays, 9)
A man wrongfully accused of murder packs up his family and moves them to Iowa under assumed names. Things become dangerous, though, when both the law and the real killer begin sniffing around. I’m down with Donnie Wahlberg, but ugh, I hate Leslie Hope. She was Terri Bauer (Jack’s wife in season 1 of 24) and Amy’s super annoying professor this year on Everwood. But yeah, Donnie rules!!!.
Fox’s new shows!!!
Happy Hour (Thursdays, 8:30)
A small-town guy moves to Chicago, has his heart broken and moves in with a wannabe “Rat Packer” who vows to remake him.
Justice (Wednesdays, 9)
High-profile defense lawyers work to get their wealthy and famous clients out of trouble. I don’t know about this one, but it stars Spy Daddy (Victor Garber-Alias) and Jack from the Creek (Kerr Smith!!)
Standoff (Tuesdays, 8)
Hostage negotiators balance work and personal relationships.
Stars: Ron Livingston ("Office Space", “Swingers”), Michael Cudlitz (ok this guy, we’ve all seen before but I never knew his name. This season he was the prison guard that TeaBag killed on Prison Break, he’s also been on buffy & 90210, when you see his face, you’ll know), Gina Torres ("Firefly", “Angel”, “Alias”)
'Til Death (Thursdays, 8)
A happy newlywed couple (the kid that had sex with Stifler’s mom in the American Pie movies) move in next to a husband and wife (Brad Garrett & Joely Fisher) who have been married for more than 20 years and have quite a different view on matrimony.
Vanished (Mondays, 9)
When an FBI team begins to investigate the disappearance of a senator's wife, what looks like a simple missing persons case unfolds into a vast conspiracy with national security issues at stake.
So that’s about it. Don’t forget to check out the excel sheet with the schedule for next year; and I have to say, at first glance, I’m not going to have too many conflicts this year (now that my tivo can record two things at once I’m golden!)

Day 1 & 2 from the upfronts
Hey guys, I was going to wait until the end of the week to send this out, but then I realized it would be ginormous! So, here’s the plan. Today I’m going to send out descriptions of the new shows that NBC & ABC has planned for next year (of course with my comments included). I’ll also send out some tidbits of shows that are on the fence. And then, at the end of the week, I’ll send out the excel sheet outlining next fall’s schedule.
Before we begin, I just want to give a big thumbs down (overall) to the Prison Break finale. I thought it was pretty cool that doctor sara killed herself (probably) and that the VP killed the pres, but that last scene, bah. Are we really supposed to believe that the 5 inmates can outrun the 25 cop cars surrounding them? Boo Bah Hiss. Season 2-on the run, I get it. But give me a sliver of realism. I know how to suspend my disbelief to go with a show ( I do it every week for 24) but you can’t abuse it, you can’t make it so horribly absurd that I can’t take it anymore; especially if I’m going to watch 22 episodes of guys running through the forest. I thought they’d at least make it to the plane (as in, ON the plane) I can’t believe I missed the finale of “How I met Your Mother” for this!!! Thank God for Tivo!!!
Oh! And Scrubs was picked up for next year (as was What About Brian) but Scrubs will most likely be midseason again. Sadly, TV guide is reporting that Everwood will not get picked up by the CW (booooo) and that Veronica Mars will receive a 13 episode order! Only 13! Bah! I am not liking this new CW!!! Updated news! Apparently the CW is a bunch of crackheads because One Tree Hill is rumored to be picked up for next year!!!
Now! The new shows for NBC & ABC!!!! (If I'm at all interested, the show will be in bold)
NBC’s New Fall Lineup
"Friday Night Lights" (Tuesdays, 8-9 p.m) Remember that movie that Tim McGraw & Billy Bob Thorton were in? Ya know, how much Texans really, really, really love small town football (a lot)…hey didn’t MTV make a movie like that with the Dawson? Anyhoo, this is a tv version.
"Heroes" (Mondays, 9-10 p.m.), A group of people discover that they have extraordinary powers, ranging from the ability to fly to hearing other people's thoughts. Greg Grunberg (yay! I love him! If you don’t know him from Alias, you know him from Felicity or as the pilot on Lost!) Ali Larter (hey, this is the girl from the aforementioned Dawson football movie. She put all the whipped cream on her privates!!!) Milo Ventimiglia ("Gilmore Girls"), and Leonard Roberts (he was Riley’s best buddy that got demonized by Adam on Buffy)
"20 Good Years" Wednesdays, (9-9:30 p.m.) John Lithgow & Papa Bluth (wahhhh I miss Arrested Development) star as mismatched buddies who realize that life doesn't last forever.
"30 Rock" (Wednesdays, 9:30-10 p.m.) NBC signed on two shows this year that offer a behind the scenes glimpse of an SNL type show. This is Tina Fey’s show, and it stars
Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, and Rachel Dratch (the funny looking girl from SNL).
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (Thursdays, 9-10pm) So this is the 2nd behind the scenes of an SNL-type show, show. This one is created by Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme ( collectively behind Sports Night, The West Wing—when it was good--, Jack & Bobby) stars Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford (The West Wing, Billy Madison –he was Billy’s arch nemesis), Amanda Peet (Saving Silverman) Steven Weber (Wings), D.L. Hughley (The Hughleys,) and Evan Handler (who you may know as Charlotte’s hubby on SATC or Hurley’s invisible friend on Lost).
KT sidenote: I’ll probably check out both of these because I really like both the casts & the people behind both shows. Hello? Alec Baldwin?? I frikkin love him. And he is at his best on SNL so one would think that he would shine in a vehicle like this!!!
Coming Midseason from NBC:
Andy Richter in a private eye comedy. LOVE HIM
The Black Connelly’s –a look into an Irish family’s life of organized crime from Paul Haggis (the guy who wrote & directed CRASH)
Raines with Jeff Goldblum as a detective who communicates with the dead people in his cases (blecch)
Kidnapped-about a rich teenager who gets, uh, kidnapped. This has a pretty interest cast. Jeremy Sisto ("Six Feet Under"), Delroy Lindo ("Crooklyn"), Timothy Hutton (French Kiss, TURK-182) and Dana Delany (China Beach)
ABC New Shows
Betty the Ugly (Friday, 8-9) Based on a telenovela, it is one of those shows about an ordinary girl trying to fit in. Stars: America Ferrera (“Sisterhood of the traveling pants) and Vanessa Williams.
Big Day (Thursday, 8-8:30) "24" meets "Father of the Bride," each episode takes place on a single day from a different point-of-view. Stars: Marla Sokoloff (Whatever it takes) and Wendie Malick ("Just Shoot Me")
Brothers & Sisters (Sunday, 10-11) Family secrets and lies are exposed are exposed when siblings come together to celebrate a birthday and soapy repercussions follow. Oooohhhh! Sounds lame, check out the cast though: Calista Flockhart, Ron Rivkin (Sloane!) Balthazar Getty (oohhhh I’m so giddy! I was just thinking to myself that I’m sad Alias is going to end, because I’ve gotten use to seeing Balthazar every week!) Rachel Griffiths (Brenda, yay!!!) Dave Annable (the guy that kept talking from the side of his mouth on Reunion), Patricia Wettig (the VP from Prison Break) and one of the producers is Marti Noxon, who worked on Buffy!
Do you even need to ask me if I’m going to watch? Hopefully it won’t suck, because I can’t take a tease like that. Too many fun people in that show!
Help Me Help You (Tuesdays, 9:30-10)
A therapy group is led by a doctor (Ted Danson) who may be in the greatest need of therapy. Also stars Jane Kaczmarek ("Malcolm in the Middle").
Let's Rob ... (Tuesdays, 9-9:30)
This sounds like a pretty interesting concept. A group of misfits plot to rob Mick Jagger's luxury Central Park West apartment. Stars: Donal Logue ("Grounded for Life")
Men in Trees (Fridays, 9-10)
Premise: After her wedding plans fall apart, a female relationship coach (Anne Heche) stays in Alaska and looks for love.
The Nine (Wednesdays, 10-11)
Nine people deal with the aftereffects of being held hostage during a bank robbery. Another big cast. Chi McBride ("Boston Public," "House"), Scott Wolf ("Everwood", “Party of Five”), Kim Raver ("24"), Tim Daly (“eyes”, "Wings")
Notes from the Underbelly (Thursdays, 8:30-9)
An expecting couple sees how preparations to have a baby change their own relationship and their relationship with their friends.
Six Degrees (Thursdays, 10-11)
The lives of several New Yorkers intersect, even though they don't know each other.
Another interesting cast!! Jay Hernandez (crazy/beautiful), Bridget Moynahan ("I, Robot", Big’s wife on SATC), Campbell Scott (singles), Erika Christensen ("Traffic")
And it is a J.J. Abrams show!
Midseason from ABC:
Day Break
A cop tries to prevent one murder while clearing himself of another killing for which he's been framed. Taye Diggs, Adam Baldwin ("Firefly")
In Case of Emergency
Premise: Four friends from high school are reunited and discover that their lives hadn't turned out exactly as planned. Jonathan Silverman ("The Single Guy"), David Arquette ("Scream"), Greg Germann ("Ally McBeal"), Kelly Hu ("CSI: NY"), Lori Loughlin ("Full House")
Traveler
Premise: Two friends go on the run when they become suspects in a terrorist bombing. Who will trust them? How can their clear their names?
So that's it so far. I'm a little depressed about everwood, but truthfully, I didn't think those jackasses at the WC would keep it around. This does not bode well for Veronica Mars because it appears that the WC is trying to be one of those teeny-boppig shows with no substance! BAH!!!
Tomorrow is CBS & then Thurs...Fox & the WC!!

Is Veronica Mars My Favorite Show Ever?
Wow. That’s all I can say about the Veronica Mars finale. And don’t worry all you slackers who are waiting for the season 2 DVD to come out in August, I’m not going to go into specifics. That being said, I have to take a moment to discuss the finale in general because something occurred to me about 45 minutes in; I am WAY WAY too invested in this show. I love Veronica, & Wallace & Keith & Logan (especially logan) way too much and it made me wonder if I could love this show more than Buffy. That’s a big thing for me to say because, hello, BUFFY! Buffy is my favorite show EVER; I couldn’t have loved the characters more if they had been real, live people. It was the first show that ever really traumatized me (in a good way); I lived that show for 7 seasons. So for me to even consider that I love this show –as much—as buffy is a big thing to say. I know that I have yelled at those that have compared this show to Buffy, but last night, during a dream sequence in which Veronica imagined her life if Lilly had never been murdered, I realized how similar the two title characters are. They are both women who, if their lives had not taken such dramatic turns, would have ended up as perfectly nice, vacant, Jessica Simpson clones. If fate had not stepped in & made these girls deal with such extraordinary circumstances they never would have become the powerful characters they are today. P.S. Kristen Bell may be competition for SMG as all time best cry-er ever. When SMG starts crying, it is all over, but wowie, Kristen Bell has let the tears go in the last 3 episodes and in each instance I was welling up moments later!!!! Emmy for Kristen Bell! NOW!!!!!
I don’t love VM simply because Veronica is a strong female character. If that was the case I’d still love Alias. I love the quick, snappy dialogue, the (complicated) relationships, the way everything isn’t tided up at the end of the hour. Wow—this does sound like my favorite vampire slayer. Last night, during the last 20 minutes, I burst into tears (at least twice), gasped 5 times, screamed at the tv several times (Jay had to lock himself in the bedroom) and actually felt nauseous during a commercial break (I was too excited to wait 15 minutes so that I could tivo past commercials, I had to watch it live!!). It went something like this:
What? What? VERONICA! BEAVER! VERONICA! Wha? NOOOO! KEITH!! KKKKKEEEEIIIITTTTHHHH! Yay Logan! OMG! Aaron!!! Clarence?? Duncan!!!!
I was definitely a little traumatized after the show ended. It is absolutely my favorite show right now (as much as I love 24 & lost I am not one iota as devoted) and only time will tell if Buffy can be overthrown. I will say this though, at one point, I thought that Alias might overtake Buffy (back in Alias season 2) but then the next 3 seasons were less than stellar, hopefully the same fate is not waiting for VM. One last point, last night, Logan got himself inducted into the “Boys I love the most Club”. So that makes: Pacey (Dawson’s Creek), Noel (Felicity), Spike (Buffy) & now Logan.
Pfew. I feel much better. What else do I have to share with you?
Next week is the network uprfronts, which means we find who is in, and who is out (hee hee). So allegedly, VM is safe, but for all you One Tree Hill fans, I really don’t have anything good for you. I hear it is a toss up right now. Also, still no word on Everwood. NBC 5/15; ABC 5/16; CBS 5/17; CW & Fox 5/18). I’ll probably send out daily reports of what made it to next season.
Us Weekly reported it last week, but last night Britney officially confirmed that she is expecting baby number 2. Word is that Britney is not too happy, although she loves being a mom, because she was recording and planning her comeback. Now it is all on hold. Britney, you need to get away from that man. He is a walking baby maker! If he winks at you, you’ll get knocked up! Divorce him or your career is over!!!
I think that is about it. Finales are rolling (see the previous KT Update for a listing of dates) but I feel pretty good because I don’t think anything can be more stressful than that Veronica Mars finale. And if you don’t watch VM yet, go get yourself season 1. Season 2 will be out in August so you’ll have plenty of time to watch it before season 3 starts!

Finale dates & celeb scoop!
Hey kiddies. I actually have some celeb gossip so let’s get right into it!
Truthfully, I have lost my lust for celeb gossip. My Access Hollywood/E! News Live/US Weekly days are over. I just don’t care anymore. Perhaps I am growing up, but more likely, perhaps I am jaded from all of the breakups and I don’t care about anyone like I use too! So sad, remember how up I was on the latest Juju-Brit scoop? I guess I’ve been overexposed to media circus’ masquerading as celebrity love (I’m talking to you Maverick). Anyhoo, that’s why there hasn’t been too much celeb scoopage. But I did hear something so scandalous that my ears actually perked up & I wanted to know more. So I now I will share it with you.
We all know of the impending divorces of Heather Locklear & Richie Sambora and Denise Richards & Charlie Sheen. And I’m sure most of you have heard that Heather has been seen canoodling with David Spade (yech!). So here is where it gets interesting.
The other day Denise filed court papers accusing Sheen of abuse, saying that he never wanted their first child and that he indulges in all kinds of porn (including the kind that gets you thrown in jail). Not that I’m so completely shocked, but I had kinda hoped that Charlie was becoming a better man, guess not. Although I guess it is also possible that Denise flipped after trying to make it work again, finding out that he cheated on her AGAIN and that she had to go get an HIV test! There is a slight possibility that she is a woman scorned and is now out to ruin the MFer. For some reason I tend to believe her. Anyhoo, apparently Heather had been a big support for Denise and they’ve been BFF! Until…dant…dant…dahhhhh…….Denise was spotted kissing Richie! SCANDAL! Of course, there is a big part of me that knows it is completely realistic that if Heather & Denise are good friends, then so are Denise & Richie, he may have been checking up on her since she is going through this rough patch and she gave him a peck goodbye. If not, holy scandal!!!! I’ll be very interested to see how this plays out.
Now on to tv goodness. We are just one week shy of May, which means SWEEPS & Finales! We will also find out in mid-May what the networks have planned for next season (NBC 5/15; ABC 5/16; CBS 5/17; CW & Fox 5/18). I really, really hope that Veronica Mars is on the CW schedule or I may have to….I don’t know. Think of something cool, pretend I said it.
So yeah, finales. I guess since Keifer signed a 3 contract we know that Jack Bauer will survive another day. I have to say I was a bit concerned for his well being a few episodes back. Daughter hating him, watching co-workers & best friends die. I thought the final scene of the season might be Jack with a pistol in his mouth.
I’m also interested in seeing where Lost is leading this year. I haven’t been 1/100th as invested as last year, but it is still a top show and still has moments of brilliance. Will locke stop entering the numbers? Will Kate pick between Sawyer & Jack? Will Walt be found? What about Desmond? What about that map that Locke drew last week? What about Sun & Jin’s bastard child? Will Sun be a target now, because we know the “others” love babies!
VM is wrapping up another stellar season as well. I won’t go in to specifics because I know there are people who read this that haven’t seen season 2 yet, but man, how much do I love logan?
Alias will conclude in May too. I’m kinda happy. As much as I hoped, this show was never as good as it was the first 2 seasons. In season 2 I loved every character on that show. Now I just wait for Sark-a-liscous to come back, or for Balthazaar Getty to come on screen. (Although I do still love Mr. Bristow)
Of course there is Everwood, how will it end if this is the last season? And bright was a bad, bad boy last week! I heard Madison will be in it if it is not the last season! WTF!
Will the hippies win the Amazing RACE??!!!??
Is there any doubt that Terry will win survivor (actually, after seeing this past week, I think it is slightly possible that Terry won’t win—frikkin finally an excited episode!!!
I just can’t take it! Anyhoo, please see below for finale dates, and remember Rescue Me starts May 30, Deadwood & Entourage return june 11. And Lucky Louie starring North Brunswick’s own, Lil Jimmy Norton will start in june too! ( I believe the 11th with Deadwood.) I’ll be back in 2 weeks with some thoughts on finales & the scoop on network schedules for fall 06.
