Hola everyone! This week is round 3 for big premieres. I can hardly contain myself for the excitement & fun that awaits me this week. First, Tuesday means new Veronica Mars! I hope all you slackers that got hooked from my season 1 dvd got caught up in time (Michael l& Hylda!!) Then Wednesday brings a new Lost (frikkin finally!) and the premiere of The Nine. I’ve been waiting for The Nine for a while. I thought it had the most potential when it was unveiled last spring, and now I get to finally see if it lives up to my expectations.
Before I get into new reviews I have some good tv gossip!
So you all know that I am heartbroken over the cancellation of Everwood (KT Sidenote: My curses still work! The CW’s Runaway which is in Everwood’s old spot is doing TERRIBLE!!! I do feel bad cursing Donnie Wahlberg—he was my favorite New Kid for a while---but I love Everwood more) but show creator Greg Bertlini is not unemployed, so that makes me happy. He is actually working on Brothers & Sisters & has promised to bring some familiar faces from Everwood to his new show. Wow, Greg works fast! News just came in that Treat Williams will do a few episodes as Sally Field’s love interest!
I have mentioned a few times in the past that a childhood friend of mine is in the business. She’s had a few small roles on Broadway & even did a guest stint last year on Law & Order. Well, I’m quite excited to report that Jackie has landed a recurring role on NBC’s midseason replacement The Black Donnelly’s. She’ll play the lead character’s girlfriend. Fun Times!!!
Last week Fox pulled Happy Hour & Justice. Now comes news that they may be waiting to pull the plug on Justice. They’ve ordered additional scripts, which in TV land means that the network is not ready to cancel you, but they want to see what direction you are going before they give you additional money to film episodes.
Another one bites the dust! Good thing I didn’t watch it! CBS pulls Smith effective immediately!!!
First full season pickup of the season! NBC picks up Heroes!
On Monday ABC Family began running Everwood. I can’t tell you how nice it was to go back to the beginning and see little-purple haired angry Ephram meeting Amy for the first time. Oh, and Andy & Nina meeting for the first time! I love this show. It just makes me feel all warm & cozy inside. Plus, 4 years later, I still love the fight between Ephram & Andy. For a father to yell “I hate you right back you little brat” to his son after said son exclaimed his hatred for his father, well, that’s something you don’t see on tv. That’s why it kills me that this show was cancelled so that 7th Heaven, the queen of saccharine, unrealistic family television could get another year. It really is to Everwood’s credit that they were never afraid to do the opposite of what other WB type shows did. So, if you get home early from work, or you have a tivo, I suggest checking out Everwood, weeknights, 6PM, ABC Family.
New Show Reviews
Just in case you forgot, here is my rating scale.
Here’s my rating scale:
* One Tree Hill (I do not endorse this show)
** Smallville (I’ll watch it, but it hasn’t made it to my season pass list)
** ½ Prison Break (I hate this show but I can’t stop watching!)
*** Desperate Housewives (One of my tivo shows)
**** 24 (Nothing will keep me from watching this show!!)
Kidnapped (Wed, 10PM NBC) Dana Delaney & Timothy (Turk-182) Hutton star as a rich couple whose teenage son gets abducted. Jeremy Sisto (Brenda’s crazy brother Billy on Six Feet Under, or for you Creek fans, the guy that Joey was with in the finale before she dumped his ass for Pacey) is a “retrieval specialist” but then the FBI & Delroy Lindo (you’d know his face) butt in & everything goes wacky! I liked this show a lot, and I didn’t think I would like it at all. I wasn’t planning on watching it (after Reunion last year I had sworn off serialized shows that would tell you who done it by the end of the season) but it came highly recommended by the Mozz. That being said, the second episode was down 14% from the premiere; which means to me that it is in danger of being axed. So now I am torn. Should I watch? Should I not? I like it, but I don’t want to get all involved just so the show can be cancelled in December & then I’ll never know why the kid was abducted. Bah!!! So I’m still deciding. Maybe I’ll tivo this week’s and see how the ratings did. If they are still falling, then I will just cut my losses before I get too involved. *** KT UPDATE UPDATE—This just in from a reliable source—Apparently NBC has told the creators of Kidnapped that they will have 13 episodes & that’s it. So there is a good news and bad news. The bad news is that the show is pretty much dead. The good news is that NBC is giving the show time to wrap up its storyline. So yay! I will continue to watch! ----Another KT KT Update! This just in! NBC banishes Kidnapped to Saturday nights! They better keep this on to finish the storyline!!
Ugly Betty (Thurs, 8PM, ABC) Wow, Thursday night is the big night again. This is the only time period where I have 3 conflicting shows to watch. Thank goodness for tivo. On CBS is survivor (which honestly is starting to bore me a little bit, I still haven’t picked a favorite---KT KT update-Alas-This Thursday was a surprise! Yay! I love when tribes make things interesting!!), NBC is My Name is Earl & The Office while ABC has little gem, Ugly Betty. To sum up, this is a show about a manwhore who is heading up a fashion magazine. In order to stop his son, the manwhore from sleeping with all of his assistants, a Publishing Tycoon hires an ugly girl to be his son’s new assistant. But look, even though she is ugly and not a size 4, she is smart! So she & the son bond and he decides he needs her in order to succeed! America Ferrara is the core of the show and she is extremely likable (she was great in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants). There were some sweet moments in this show, and at one point I actually cried (Oh god, I think I just turned into my mother). I liked the show a lot (even though it reminded me of The Devil Wear’s Prada) but I’ll keep watching for now (hopefully it won’t get old).***
Hooray! Finally Veronica Mars! Now I can’t go into too much detail because there is one person who is finishing up season 2, but I will say that I enjoyed the premiere. It wasn’t over the top amazing, but I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces. The new kid, Piz, he was on Life As We Know It two years ago. I like him, but I think he might be too wussy for a possible love interest. Oh, and did everyone catch that the sweater that Veronica gave to Piz to wear was the one that Duncan lent to Logan last year? Hee Hee. That’s why it is extra funny that Logan said “Nice Shirt”. See kids, you have to pay attention to get all the VM goodness! I expect next week will flow a little more, with Veronica back on a real case with substance. ****
The Nine This show is about 9 people that survive a 52 hour hostage crisis. The show takes place immediately following the 52 hours & the show will reveal bits & pieces of it through the season as we watch these 9 people try to move on. It has a pretty impressive cast, Tim Daly (Wings, Eyes), Scott Wolf (Hello! Bailey from PO5), Chi McBride (the principal from Boston Public) & Kim Raver (Audrey from 24). I’m definitely interested to find out what went on; and I like most of the characters, I’ll continue to watch. ***
Lost Before I start this review, I am stating now that I’m going to steal 2 terms from the guy at EW.com that does the lost review. Henceforth I will be referring to Henry Gale as “Benry” (we learned that his “other” name is Ben) and the place were the others live is “othersville”. Just wanted to let you know, didn’t want to take credit for fun names that I didn’t come up with myself. I have to say, not too impressed. I know some people who thought this was an amazing premiere, I thought it just brought up even more questions & storylines. There were snippets that I enjoyed, Sawyer giving his cookie to Kate and seeing the way Benry directed Ethan & the other dude when they saw the plane coming down. Hmm. Ya know what? I just thought of something interesting. “Othersville” seemed to be unaffected by the chaos that was happening on the other side of the island (aka Desmond fumbling with the numbers)…is othersville far enough away that the electric buzz that entering numbers at the hatch stops does not affect them? Discuss. Anyhoo, I still like Lost. For me, it will never be as frikkin awesome as it was for those first few episodes. Every now & again I’m spellbound, but for the most part I’m just confused and that’s not so fun to watch. At this point though I’m so invested that it would take something dramatic for me to stop watching.
Friday Nights Lights debuted this week but I haven’t had time to watch it. Which brings me too….My tivo is going to strike soon! I have way too many shows on there & my season pass list is OUT OF CONTROL!!!! Right now, I’m season passing:
How I met Your Mother
Prison Break
Heroes
Studio 60
What About Brian
Friday Nights Light
The Unit (for jay)
Veronica Mars
Jericho
30 Rock**although this hasn’t debuted yet
Lost
The Nine
Kidnapped
Ugly Betty
Survivor
My Name is Earl
The office
Six Degrees
Men in Trees
The Amazing Race
Desperate Housewives
Brothers & Sisters
South Park
Wow, that’s 19 ½ hours of tv each week!! Holy crap. That’s a lot of tv eh. So yeah, it might be time to start making some cuts. Truthfully, the only one close to getting cut is Six Degrees, but I haven’t watched the second episode yet, so I can’t really make any judgments yet.
Next week I’ll have thoughts on Friday Night Lights & 30 Rock!!!
