I spit on Direct TV! I hate it with the fire of 1000 suns. I hate that they have the monopoly on all the sports & since I am a nice wife I will be tortured with this wretched provider for the rest of my life, or at least the rest of my married life (I kid, I kid. But seriously, you don’t even want to know how many fights Jay & I have had about Direct TV since we made the switch). To make a long story short, they stink & I don’t like them. Mainly because their DVR is wretched compared to Tivo…but it all came to a boiling point last night…Yes, in the midst of the biggest premiere week of September, my “new” Direct TV box (which had been plugged in for all of 35 minutes) decided to implode right smack in the middle of Chuck. Now because I am a dvr owner I rarely watch things live. So when this piece of crap imploded it did not simply ruin one show for me. No, no. I also lost K-ville & the beginning of Heroes! Bah! 3 shows ruined! Unacceptable! Direct TV must die! I have been threatening for months to plug my Tivo back in but I don’t think Jay takes me seriously. Bah! My mean husband won’t let his wife have one lil tivo. Booooooooooo! Wouldn’t a Tivo subscription be an awesome 1st Anniversary gift? I sure do.
Ok, let me take a few deep breaths & then we can proceed into the review portion of the KT Update.
Alrighty, I think I am able to proceed.
Just in case you forgot, here is my rating scale.
Here’s my rating scale:
* One Tree Hill (I do not endorse this show)
** House (I’ll watch it, but it hasn’t made it to my season pass list)
*** Desperate Housewives (One of my tivo shows)
**** Brothers & Sisters (Nothing will keep me from watching this show!!)
Last week a few new shows premiered but this week is the big week. All new shows will get a 2 episode try out. Here are my reviews thus far:
Prison Break—So now everyone is in Panama in jail (except Lincoln) while Sarah & LJ are in trouble…snnnoooore. I just can’t handle this show. It is sooooo over the top & ridiculous. I find myself rolling my eyes every 15 min. And now that I’ve seen (40 minutes) of Chuck, Prison Break is OUT. **
K-ville-This show is dependent on the two leads, who I happen to adore. Anthony Anderson (who was in The Departed last year as well as many tv appearances including Veronica Mars) & Cole Hauser (one of Damon’s & Affleck’s buddies, you can see him in many of their movies but he was also the villain in 2Fast2Furious) are definitely deserving of a hit show, which is why I tuned in to the dreaded “cop show”. The first episode was decent enough. Anderson’s partner deserted him during Katrina, which means he has partner issues while Hauser has a secret past (which I think is a little far-fetched). New Orleans is a character within the show & I’m interested to see how they explore it. I tried to watch episode 2 last night, but you all know how well that went. I think Fox is putting them up on itunes, so I’ll try to get a hold of it & get back to you.
** ½
Back to You-Most of the sitcoms I watch are not traditional (AD, The office, Scrubs) but I do watch “How I met your mother” which one could categorize as “traditional” so I thought I’d give this Kelsey Grammer - Particia Heaton news room show a try. It was ehhh for me. I didn’t have too many laughs & although I like Grammer despite myself, I found Heaton getting on my nerves a bit. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow but it will have to improve quite a bit to stay on the schedule. **
Survivor-This edition takes place in China which is super exciting, new location, yay! I’m finding myself teetering between annoyance & loathing for most of the contestants. I did like Chicken who was promptly voted off. With the tv overload of Thurs, if I don’t find someone halfway likable next week, it may be demoted into a show I just flip on during commercials ( I know Tobins, it is horrible, but true!!!)**
How I met your mother-I love this show. I think it is in my top three right now. It came back strong this week with the aftermath of the Ted-Robin breakup. I laughed out loud quite a few times and loved the last scene between Ted & Robin (boys are so easy to please) and Barney/Marshall (check out http://www.cbs.com/primetime/how_i_met_your_mother/slapbet_countdown/) Thank Jesus the Direct TV had the good sense to let me finish this show before imploding. Otherwise, it would have gotten UGLY in this house. ****
Chuck-I thoroughly enjoyed the first 40 minutes of this show & luckily NBC has the premiere online, so I’ll check out the rest online momentarily. The lead is as endearing as you’ve heard (well if you listen to tv critics); plus 2 favorites from long, lost, loved shows are on board. Madison, the Ephram deflowering babysitter from Everwood is Chuck’s sister, and Adam Baldwin (Jane from Firefly or Hamilton from Angel—pick your whedon fave) is an NSA agent after Chuck. I think it will be more scrubs than Alias, but I enjoyed it quite a bit and am deeming it a Tivo Show based on 40 minutes!!! ***
Heroes-Again, thanks to super Direct TV, I missed the first 10 minutes. But it was a just-ok episode for me. The highlight of course was the return of Sark-a-liscous as Hiro’s hero. I’m interested in where Sylar is, what happened to Peter & what the heck that mark of death is (and why is Peter wearing it?) So hopefully the episodes will improve as the weeks go on, plus Kristen Bell! Yahooey! ***
Coming up next:
If I’m bored tonight I might watch House.
Wednesday, September 26
Back to You (Fox 8PM for try number 2)
Private Practice (ABC 9PM)
The Bionic Woman (NBC 9PM)
Dirty Sexy Money (ABC 10PM)
Life (NBC 10PM)
Thursday, September 27
Survivor (CBS, 8PM)
My Name is Earl (NBC 8PM)
Grey’s Anatomy (ABC 9PM)
The Office (NBC 9PM)
Friday, September 28
Moonlight (CBS, 9PM)
Sunday, September 30
Desperate Housewives (ABC, 9PM)
Brothers & Sisters (ABC, 10PM)
Before I run off, I do have some more scoopage for you.
In an unforeseen turn of events, it seems that Jack Bauer will again once again see Soul Patch Tony. According to 24, they never definitively said if Tony was dead & the clock ticking was an indication of that. I think this is a step in the right direction. I think one of the reasons last year blew was because Jack didn’t have anyone working with him that we cared about.
Prison Break ratings were down 20% from the premiere last year—and K-ville did a respectable 8.96 million (although this was last week when it had no new competition). Last night ratings show Prison Break ranked in 4th (Dancing with the Stars was 1st, while How I met Your Mother tied with Chuck). For the 9PM hour, Dancing with the Stars continued to dominate, 2nd was Heroes, 3rd Two & a Half Men and finally K-ville. So, I don’t know what that means. I don’t know if Fox every does well, aside from Idol. Maybe I won’t get too attached to K-ville.
We will finally got some closure on the Libby backstory on Lost, as the character will re-appear in a few more back stories.
Molly Shannon joins Paul Reubens as a guest star on the much buzzed but not yet viewed, Pushing Daisies.
Alrighty, that’s all folks. Be back with more reviews soon!

KT Update! Fall Premiere's!
With all of the Britney Brou-ha-ha I nearly forgot that the tv season kicks off next week. Before I get into that, I just want to make 1 comment about the VMA's. I watched them in fast forward and I thank the Lord for that because the show was wretched!!!!! Besides the obvious, the whole different room thing was DUMB. Justin didn't even perform, Rihanna lip synched (and did not dance) and it is just ridiculous for a channel that doesn't show videos to host an award show about them. The only time my finger left the fast forward button was for Alicia Keys (who kicked ass), the Foo Fighters & Linkin Park. Oh and that Chris Brown kid. I slowed down to watch his MJ impersonation. Other than that, STOOOOOPID. I wish they would've shown the Kid Rock/Tommy Lee brawl. MTV stinks & I don't like it!!!
This Sunday, another awards show that I love, love, love (it is the internet, so you are probably missing my sarcasm) the emmy's are on. Why the crap is Ryan Seacrest hosting? Do we get to call in & vote? Cause that would be cool. Suffice it so say that I'm going in with low expectations and the only thing that could make me happy is if Neil Patrick Harris walks away with an emmy.
Now on to premieres!
I've added a few shows to my "check out list" either because their previews have brainwashed me or because a source I respect says I should check it out. Here is what I'll be checking out the week of Sept. 17
Monday, Sept 17
Prison Break Fox 8PM
This is a Jay show & as soon as my other Monday night shows premiere, I'll most likely knock this one off of my list.
Kville Fox 9PM
Your typical cop drama that sets it self apart because it is set in post Katrina New Orleans. I probably won't make it to far along with this show either, but I really like the two leads, so I'm willing to give it a shot.
Wed, Sept 19
Back to You Fox 8PM
EW talked pretty highly of this show, so I'm going to give it a try. I go back & forth between liking Kelsey Grammer & getting annoyed by him, so we'll see how long I last on this one (Wow, this week is looking like a lot of high expectations eh?)
Thurs, Sept 20
Survivor CBS 8PM
Hopefully we'll get a nice exciting group this year that likes to shake things up!!
I'll shoot you guys my thoughts as the week goes on! Happy potato-ing!!

KT Update-VMA Musings
I have to make a confession. I didn't get to watch the VMA's. My hotel in San Fran did not give me my MTV & I was left without the show. I was upset for 5.3 seconds, but then my wonderful husband called me to give me the play by play of the Britney Comeback Performance! I have to say, I did get a little butterfly in my belly. Despite what's gone on in her life, Brit has always been an amazing performer & been able to BRING it to the VMA's. I still say that the Oops performance was the best of any VMA ever. So, you can imagine my surprise when Jay was silent during the performance. "Is anything exciting going on?" "No." "Is there any effects?" "No" "Is the dancing good?" "Ummm, she's not really dancing. She's kinda lip synching & walking around." "oh"
That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Then I logged on to my trusty Perez Hilton site & he said it sucked! What happened to Criss Angel? The big comeback performance?
I saw some snippets on the Today Show (I love how real news covers Brit) and wow, I'm so glad I didn't watch it live. I suppose some small part of me was hoping that Brit would return to form and make all of us pay for leaving her, but no, she just fell further down the "has been" hole. Her performance was lackluster, she looked completely drugged, there was absolutely no trace of the old briteny that I knew & loved. For me, this is the final straw. I'm kind of insulted actually. It is like she didn't have the decency to come to work prepared & she wasted every one's time. Again, I'm glad I missed it. If or when Jive releases her new record I won't be buying it, no matter how catchy the producer makes the songs.
Oh & don't believe the Spears camp spin that Britney was distraught before her performance because she found out that Sarah Silverman was going to talk about her kids. Number 1, you are a professional, go out there and dance your ass off and no one will care what silverman says and 2, Silverman's camp is saying that no one, not even MTV, knew what she was going to say before she hit the stage.
Finally, I heard that Kid Rock & Tommy Lee got into a brawl at the show. That's awesome. I wish they'd show that. Probably the best part of the show. If I actually watch the show when I go home on Wednesday I'll post my thoughts. In the meantime you should check out VH1 on Tuesday night for Perez Hilton's wrap up of the VMA's (CAN'T WAIT!!!)
