KT Update-Season Finale Report Card

Hey guys,

Well the season is over and as another one ends, I see another show I love go off into the sunset. No, actually this time is worse. At least with Angel & Everwood (two cancellations that broke my heart) I was offered closure. Veronica Mars just ended. Did Keith lose the sheriff race..again (I’m thinking yes). Did V realize that Piz is just too boring for words and that she should just get back with Logan already? What about the FBI? Clearly, I have some issues to deal with this summer and thankfully I’ll have netflix to keep me busy. I’ve just upgraded my membership to the 3 at a time plan and I’m ready to crank out some movies! But first, a look back on the season finales of 2007.

Finale Report Card

Lost -Wow. Now that’s how you end a season. Too many shows this year were cliffhanger-less. I love a good cliffhanger, something to drive me crazy all summer until the show comes back. I mean, I don’t know if you would technically call this a cliffhanger, ehh, I’m going to go ahead and say it was. Will Desmond get back in time to tell the Losties that the boat is not Penelope’s? What will happen when the boat gets there? Really, this episode was all about the infamous “game-changer” that I’ve been hearing about for months. I think it is an interesting move that could make the show awesome next year or completely kill it. I gave up on trying to figure out Lost a long time ago and now I’m just a long for the ride, hopefully, next year’s 16 episodes will be as good as this year’s. Anyhoo, some things I especially liked about this episode:
-Everything with Charlie. He took his destiny like a man.
-The asskicking Jack bestowed on Ben.
-Rousseau finally meeting her daughter—I’m still confused, do we think Ben is Alex’s biological father? Wasn’t Rousseau already pregnant when they landed on the island?
-Hurley coming to the rescue.
-Sayid’s neck breaking move.
-Sawyer shooting down Tom.
-Walt reappearing and saving Locke.

Some followup questions:
Do you think the “him” Kate referred to is Sawyer? Do you think the dead guy is someone we already know? I’m thinking both men are people we have yet to meet.
Does Jack need to go back to the island because he is “lost” when he has nothing to save or no one to lead? Or is there a bigger reason for returning?
Wouldn’t Kate still be a fugitive? Why is she so easily accessible to Jack?
Grade A

Brothers & Sisters-This is one of my favorite shows right now. I thought the finale had the right mix of laughter (McAllister’s crazy family, plus Kevin making out in the kitchen) and tears (Justin’s tearful goodbye at the airport). Sometimes simple is better.
Grade A-

How I met your mother- I would have missed this show if CBS didn’t renew it. The finale set the season in motion for next year, Ted knows that he & Robin would never work and we may be in for a whole bunch more “suiting up” now that’s he single. And I love Barney. He was hysterical “Tell us what? Tell us what? Tell us what?” And the Price Is Right episode a few weeks back was fantastic.
Grade B+

The Office-Everything that happened at Dunder Mifflin while Michael was in NYC was hysterical. Dwight, Andy, Pam, so frikkin funny. I don’t like that Jan is a shell of her former self. I liked her more when she was badass. So, Pam & Jim finally have a date. That’s sweet, but I’m not so sure I’d be jumping for joy to date a guy that left his current girlfriend in NYC without a way home. Best part was the last 4 seconds when Ryan got the job.
Grade B+

Scrubs-The finale was entertaining (as always) –I especially liked when Dr. Cox started his little “long list bit” and Dr. Kelso cut him off. But I’m not too excited about the whole JD/Eliott thing. They’ve explored that, a lot. And I really like their friendship now. It doesn’t leave a bad taste in my mouth like George/Izzie but I still don’t like it.
Grade B

Desperate Housewives-The easiest way to do this is to make 2 lists. What I liked: Susan & Mike finally getting married, the return of Bree, Gabby & Carlos, Lynette’s fight with her mom, the cliffhanger.
What I didn’t like: Why is Gabby such a weakling? Old gabby never would have married that turd. Same goes for Edie…she use to be badass. Now she’s all soft in the middle and depressed enough to kill herself over Carlos? Plus, the best way to ruin a cliffhanger is when you know a castmember is not leaving the show.
Grade B

Dancing with the Stars-I know you are all going to say I’m biased but Joey totally should have won! He kicked major ass on that show! Plus, there were random JC sightings throughout the season (boy’s hair needs some help!!) Although the only person who could have beat Joey without me throwing things at the tv was Apollo so at least the tv didn’t have to suffer.
Grade B

Heroes-I know I’m going to get some flack about this, because when I watched it I thought it was awesome. But then I thought about it. I thought about other shows that build all season to a big finale and how it is all concluded. When Buffy had to fight the Master, Angel, Faith or Adam the fight didn’t end anti-climatically in 30 seconds. I looked on the clock when Sylar and Peter finally faced it each other and it was like 9:54. Bah! I was ready for the fight. I was ready for the knock out brawl. But Hiro just shows up, stabs Sylar, and Nathan flies Peter away. Bah I say! That’s why this show will never be one of my absolute favorites, it is so close, but just can’t get there. Maybe the writers should rent some Buffy Dvds to see how a year long battle should look.
Grade B-

My Name is Earl-This episode had some funny moments, but it ended on such a downer. Earl in jail? All alone? That’s sad. Karma was supposed to make it all better.
Grade B-

Grey’s Anatomy- Sick, sick, sick of Derek-Meredith drama. And a note to the writers of the show: Can Meredith’s life not suck, just for like 15 seconds? This year was ridiculous. Her mom, her step mom, her dad slapping her. It is all terrible. There is only so much one woman can take. And I am completely opposed to this whole George-Izzie thing. I don’t like it one bit. I like both characters tremendously, but together, BAH! Same thing with Karev and smashed face lady? Could I care any less? And since when is Bailey all wussy and losing Chief Resident to Callie? And how the hell did George fail his intern exam? The only good part was Sandra Oh’s breakdown at the end. I don’t know, I hope this show didn’t peak already.
Grade C

Survivor-I’ll never understand why the jury is so bitter. I mean, unless you were backstabbed by your one true confidant, you really have no reason to be bitter. It just means someone else’s alliance was better than yours. Anywhoo, once Yau was gone it was obvious that Earl was going to take it. This season was kind of eh-eh.
Grade C

24-This is pretty depressing. You know something is wrong with the world when I have the final 3 episodes of the season tivo’d and I couldn’t care less. Don’t care about Milo or Nadia or Jack (well of course I care about Jack) but I don’t care about anyone else. The issue with this season is that there were too many new characters. It is not the same without those old faces that have been through thick and thin with Jack. I’m not too concerned for the series though because it seems that every 3 years they stink. So hopefully next year will kick ass again and I’ll have my Power Hour back.
Grade F

Veronica Mars-I actually wasn’t a fan of the self contained episodes. But I didn’t realize until the last ep when V was all the rage trying to track down who taped her & piz at their most intimate that the issue is she needs to be invested in the central mystery. If it is just a job then her heart is not as much into it. And I’ll tell you, I loved the beating Logan gave Piz. Sure Piz didn’t deserve it, but I think he stinks and Logan was defending V’s honor. If my new boyfriend taped us and my old boyfriend broke 3 ribs of said new boyfriend I’d be impressed. That’s love. And even though V was pissed, she realized that when Piz didn’t respond when they were being taunted and when Logan went after the real culprit. He didn’t care, he did it for her. Because she is everything to him. So all of that was fun. It was fun to see V at her most bitchiness (season 1 style) and to see Dick actually have some feelings. But, it definitely did not compare to the previous 2 season finales of this show. At the same time it is bittersweet for all the reasons listed in my opening paragraph. Although there are rumblings that Rob Thomas wants to take V to the big screen *crossing fingers*.

Season Finale B
Series Finale D

That’s all for now friends. I’ll be in movie review overdrive the next couple of weeks. I just watched The Queen and have The Departed & Half Nelson to watch next.

KT Update-News from the Upfronts

Hey guys, it is me, and as I'm sure most of you know I'm heartbroken over the network that shall not be named's decision to cancel Veronica Mars. I'm completely at a loss when a network decides to keep a show like One Tree Hill and to ax Veronica. That is why my friends, I am breaking up with the CW. It is kind of sad since this network is the child of the WB and UPN, networks that housed some of my favorites, like Buffy, Angel and Roswell, but that time is over and now I think the CW stinks and I don't like it. I'll continue to include it in my schedule updates, but besides that, I shall speak of it no more.

In happier news, How I met your Mother and Scrubs were both picked up. As was Friday Night Lights. I'm going to try to watch that this summer as so many of you have spoken so highly of it. Studio 60 did not get picked up and will show its remaining episodes starting this week I believe. I'm not really going to get into too much of the season finales, I'll send out a season finale and overall season report card next week after I've seen everything and have recovered from next season's schedule (which was attached to your email).

Please see below for a sneak peak at the network's new shows for the fall. I didn't include "Heroes:Origins" which is basically a spinoff of Heroes that will air when the original is in repeats. Oh and big news is that I haven't heard where they are officially putting Lost next year, but I do know (as do most of you) that we have 3 seasons of 16 episodes ea left, and they will most likely start in February.

Overall the new shows look eh-eh. At this point I'm scared to watch anything, I don't want to get invested and then be sad when my show is pulled. Maybe I'll just watch the shows that I already like, and wait til the end of the season to see what survived. Then I can get up to date with dvds or repeats and watch the second, I'll call it my Friday Night Lights strategy.

NBC

JOURNEYMAN-a romantic mystery-drama about a San Francisco newspaper reporter and family man who inexplicably begins to travel through time and change people's lives. Along the way, he also must deal with the difficulties and strife at work and home brought on by his sudden disappearances.

CHUCK - From Josh Schwartz ("The O.C.") and McG (Charlie’s Angels) comes a one-hour, comedic spy thriller about Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") - a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. Hey guess what? Adam Baldwin (“Jayne” Firefly or “Hamilton” Angel) and Sarah Lancaster (“Madison” Everwood or “Marjorie” What About Brian) are on this show. Neat.

BIONIC WOMAN – I don’t know if you should be messing around with the Bionic Woman. I mean Jaimie Summers was kick ass. I’m a little scared of this one. Plus, how hard up for creative ideas do you have to be to remake a tv show? BAH!

LIFE-- A detective who was wrongly imprisoned for a crime returns to the force after his release.

LIPSTICK JUNGLE Remember Sex & the City? This is the network version, and there are only 3 women, not 4. Audrey from 24 is an editor-in-chief of a hot fashion magazine (Carrie Bradshaw much?), Brooke Shields finds is trying balance career and family (Miranda??). And some chick that use to be on 90210 but wasn’t one of the major cast members longs to make her dreams come true, and maybe find Mr. Right along the way (paging Charlotte York).

ABC

Big Shots- Four top executives lean on one another for help in their personal and professional lives. Cast looks interesting as the “4 top execs” are Michael Vartan (Alias), Dylan McDermott (The Practice), Christopher Titus (Titus) and some other dude. (Thursdays, 10)

Cashmere Mafia-What! Yet another Sex & the City rip off? This one stars
Lucy Liu and is produced by SATC producer Darren Star!!!

Dirty Sexy Money- An idealistic lawyer inherits his late father's practice -- representing a wealthy, ne'er-do-well family with a closet full of skeletons. Notable castmembers: Peter Krause (Six Feet Under), Donald Sutherland and Billy Baldwin. Could be interesting as it is produced by Greg Berlanti (Everwood, Brothers & Sisters) and Bryan Singer (Superman Returns). (Wed, 10)

Eli Stone-Shut up!!! I frikkin love Jonny Lee Miller! Ever since frikkin Hackers I’ve been waiting for him to do something! Yay! Booo, now this means I’m going to have to watch this show. Well, I guess I better see who else is in it and what it is about. A lawyer becomes convinced he's a modern-day prophet. Hmm. Ok, unique premise. Who else is in it? Victor Garber, I like him. Natasha Henstridge, Loretta Devine (ooh I like her, that’s the Chief’s wife from Grey’s). And, it is brought to us by Greg Berlanti and Ken Olin (Brothers & Sisters!) Excited I am!!

Private Practice-Looks like Addison is leaving Seattle Grace after being passed over for chief and heading to LA. I like the cast a lot, but between them they have like 7 failed series under their belts. I thought the introduction was terrible (from the episode of Grey’s) but hopefully it will get better. Check out the cast and see if you can pass it up.
Tim Daly (The Nine, Eyes)
Taye Diggs (Day Break, Kevin Hill)
Paul Adelstein (Prison Break)
Merrin Dungey (Alias)
Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars, Life as We Know it)
Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy)

Pushing Daisies-We all know what happened to the show that cried “big hit” from 2006 (poor Matthew Perry, I really liked him in Studio 60), but that’s what this show is for 07. A man discovers his touch can bring the dead back to life -- but they die again if he touches them a second time. Notable Cast: Lee Pace ( the brother on Wonderfalls), Kristin Chenoweth (The West Wing, but mostly known broadway, she was the Glenda in Wicked ), Chi McBride (The Nine, Boston Public), Swoosie Kurtz (most recently seen as Locke’s mother on Lost, I remember most fondly from Sisters).

Women's Murder Club-Imaging if Sex and the City were set in San Francisco and instead of talking about men, the girls solve murder cases. Notable cast: Remember Season 2 of 24? The blond girl who was actually a terrorist, she is one of our crime stoppers.

Carpoolers-Four very different men use their daily commute to bond and vent about their lives. Jerry O’Connell is one of the aforementioned commuters. (Tues, 8:30)

Cavemen-Are you frikkin kidding me? Veronica Mars gets cancelled and crap like this gets picked up? I am picking up and moving to Canada immediately if this show becomes a hit. Inspired by the Geico commercials, three modern cavemen try to make it in the moder world. (Tues, 8)

Miss/Guided-Judy Greer (who you might remember as George Sr. assistant from Arrested Development or Violet from “jawbreaker” or I’m pretty sure she was Jennifer Garner’s best friend in “13 Going on 30”) who was unpopular in high school returns to her alma mater as a guidance counselor.

Sam I Am-Christina Applegate awakens from an 8-day coma with complete amnesia about who she was before an accident. Starting over, she learns that she while she's much nicer now, she may have enjoyed herself more then. Oh look! And Barry Watson has a job now that What About Brian has been canceled! And also here is the wacky ex-first lady from 24! This cast is pretty likable, I may have to check this one out. (Mon, 9:30)

CBS

Big Bang Theory-Imagine if Beauty & the Geek were a sitcom. This is pretty much how it would look. It stars Johnny Galecki (Roseanne) and the blond daughter from 8 Simple Rules.

Cane-A South Florida family runs their successful rum and sugar business while dealing with both professional and personal turmoil.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz. Oh sorry. This one stars Jimmy Smits.

Kid Nation-Forty kids between the ages of 8 and 15 are given 40 days to build a new community -- complete with their own cooking, businesses and government -- in the ghost town of Bonanza City, New Mexico.

Moonlight- Dude, you’ve got to BE KIDDING ME!!! I just read the synopsis for this show and I am flabbergasted. Check it out and let me know if it sounds vaguely familiar. A vampire for 60 years, Mick St. James works as a private investigator, dealing with the difficulties of immortality, a slew of undead adversaries and his love for a mortal woman. !!!!!!!! So, pretty much this show is Angel, without David Boreanz, SMG, and Joss Whedon. So, why should I watch it?

Viva Laughlin; Based on the BBC format "Viva Blackpool," a man's dream of opening a casino in Laughlin, Nevada is compromised by his family, his rivals and his involvement in a murder investigation. Musical numbers unexpectedly ensue. Wait, what? I may have to check this out just because it sounds so insane. Musical numbers and gambling? Plus you have Hugh Jackman popping in every now and again, along with Melanie Griffith, D.B. Woodside (aka the Pres on 24 or the principal on buffy), and Shelly from twin peaks.

Swingtown-Residents of a Chicago suburb in the '70s are into couple swapping, open marriages and key parties, but they soon come to realize that their alternative lifestyle comes with its own complications. Notable Casting: Grant Show from Melrose Place!!
Fox

Back to You-After an embarrassing incident, a big city news anchor (Kelsey Grammer) has to head back to his old market, where he has to reteam with his former co-anchor, who also happens to be his ex (Patricia Heaton)

K-ville-Two years after Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans is far from rebuilt, a city full of criminals with an under-manned and unprepared police force. Two partners patrol the streets of the Big Easy, doing their part to save the city. I probably won’t watch this since I hate cop shows, but for those of you that like cop shows, you should give it a try since I like Cole Hauser and he is in this. You’ve probably seen him before, he’s one of Affleck’s and Damon’s best friends. He’s had bit parts in Good Will Hunting and School Ties and he was the bad guy in 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Kitchen Nightmares-Gordon Ramsay travels the country visiting restaurants in crisis and helping them get their kitchens back in order. That’s funny, the food network has a show just like this except it is Bobby Flay who is helping to save the restaurants. I like Bobby Flay better than this guy, so I give this show a big boo bah hiss!

Nashville-A reality show featured in Nashville. Wow’s sounds exciting.

New Amsterdam-Another Angel Ripoff! John Amsterdam in the 17th century and served as a Dutch solider in the colony of New Amsterdam. That makes it really strange that in 2007, he's still working as a New York City homicide detective. Funny what a little immortality will do. Bah! All this does is make me miss Joss more. Booooo.

KT side note, Joss, I implore you, although I LOVE the Buffy comics surely you can write a tv show or a movie AND a buffy comic can’t you? PUH-LEASE!!!!!

Canterbury's Law-A rebellious female defense attorney (Julianna Marguiles), in a strained marriage to a law professor, is willing to do whatever it takes to protect the wrongfully accused. Blah, blah, blah.

The Return of Jezebel James-busy book editor has to turn to her estranged younger sister to carry her baby. Interesting concept, and I do like Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under).

The Sarah Connor Chronicles-Filling in the gaps between the second and third "Terminator" films, Sarah Connor and her son John, humanity's future savior, must fight to stay alive in a dangerous world full of threats both from the present and the future. Hey, River from Firefly is in this and allegedly she is kicking ass. That might be enough for me to tune in. Although if anything on fox’s schedule screams short lived it is this.

That's all folks, I'll be back next week with finale thoughts!!

CW- Or As I like to refer to it, the channel that no longer resides on my tv. But since I am an information giver, I will tell you of their new shows that I hope all tank. I put a curse on the whole CW! I HOPE NEXT YEAR YOU GO OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!

Aliens in America-Sixteen-year-old Justin Tolchuk is just another awkward teen trying to keep a low profile when his mother decides to take in a foreign exchange student. When Raja Musharaff, a Pakistani Muslim, arrives, he and Justin find common ground in trying to survive high school in America

Gossip Girl-Don’t try to trick me CW! Just because Kristen Bell is narrating this show doesn’t mean I’ll watch. Well, not unless Logan and Papa Mars decide to show up too. Based on the books of the same name that revolve around the lives of privileged Manhattan prep school teens whose scandalous lives are revealed online by the mysterious blogger known only as Gossip Girl.

Life is Wild- Remember Everwood? Well, pretend the dad moved the family to South Africa instead of Colorado, and that the mom didn’t die.

Reaper-EEEEEEEEEEE! Even if I hadn’t already shunned the CW there would be no way I’d watch this show! Laura Palmer’s father is in it and I’m still scarred from Twin Peaks!!! Sam's parents never asked much of him, allowing him to become the best slacker he could be. It turns out, they didn't expect any future for him because they had already sold his soul to the devil, who wants Sam as his new bounty hunter.
