Hello my pop culture junkies,
Often when I implore you to watch a show it is because I have seen it & I think it is excellent and I want to you experience great tv. I'm about to tell you to watch another show for a completely different reason. Some of you know that I have a childhood friend who is an actress. She's been on Broadway, had a guest spot on Law & Order and has tried out for many tv pilots. Jackie has a role on The Black Donnelly's which debuts on NBC at 10pm on Monday Feb 26 (the old Studio 60 slot). Jackie is a recurring character and I'm pretty sure she won't show up until episode 7 or 8, but I'm hoping the show is good & gets better ratings than Studio 60. Of course the "NBC Machine" isn't really promoting the show too much (I think they spend all of their ad $$ on Heroes) so, do me a favor & check out the first episode. If you hate it, never watch it again, but at least check it out. Of course if you hate it and it bombs I'll be nagging you about another show next year as Jackie is currently in LA auditioning for pilot season.
Let's start off with some disappointing Joss Whedon news. I'm very sad to report that he is no longer attached to WonderWoman. According to Joss himself, "I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked." I'm pretty bitter about this actually. The man needs to be putting out some work for me to enjoy! Bah!
In better Whedon news, he is directing tomorrow's (or tonight's depending on when you are reading this) episode of The Office. I'm kinda interested to see the Whedon direct a sitcom, I'm half expecting some vampires to break into Dunder Miflin and make Dwight & Michael into creatures of the night. Then next week, JJ Abrams will be directing an episode, so I half expect Jim & Pam to be going undercover on some super secret spy mission.
In other tv news, the creator of Scrubs announced that there will be a season 7 next year, hopefully on NBC, but if not then definitely on ABC. I'm pretty sure season 7 is supposed to be the final season. Also look out for Kerri Russell to guest soon.
Anyone watching "What About Brian" or is that just me? Anyhoo next week Tiffani Amber Theissen joins the cast. And ya know what, I'm actually starting to like Adam. I hated him with Majorie, but he is definitely growing on me.
Oooh Oooh. HUGE DVD news. HUGE. Finally, on March 13, Bosom Buddies Season 1 will be released! How frikkin awesome is that! What? You are not as excited as I am? You do not even remember this piece of american sitcom genius? Well I am beyond excited as Bosom Buddies was the first show I was ever fanatical about. I remember being 7 and not going out to play with the kids in the neighborhood because Bosom Buddies was on. Come on, Tom Hanks, comic genius!
Also in the "finally getting released" category is Twin Peaks Season 2. Two or three years ago my friend Dave decided he wanted to watch Twin Peaks. So Brother Jimmy, Dave, Jay & I watched Season 1. Ahhh, Season 1. So creepy and quirky. How I'll always love you. But Season 2. Yikes! I'm still traumatized by Bob and that one scene in the Palmer living room. Anyhoo, we bought season 2 on VHS to watch, but then Jimmy & I chickened out for fear that we might accidentally get a glimpse of Bob & be traumatized for another 15 years. You think I'm joking? Ella ordered the VHS's out of her house because of the Bob vibes. I can't remember if Dave ever watched those videos, but here you go, now you can Netflix them.
Movie Reviews sponsored by Netflix:
Cars-Another notch in the Pixar belt, but definitely not as good as previous efforts. That's not saying the movie isn't enjoyable, it is, just not the best of the Pixar films. I thought it was a cute movie and of course I have to come out in support of any film with a Dale Jr cameo (oh did I mention Jay & I went stalking a few weeks ago? No actual person sightings, although we did do a few house drive by's. Fun times!!)***
Little Miss Sunshine-Quite enjoyable. I liked that no matter how f'd up each individual was, they came together as a really strong family that supported and loved each other. ****
United 93-This was hard to watch. I was unbelievably tense throughout the movie and definitely lost it a few times. It is an amazing movie done very well, but I'll never watch it again. If you watch, be ready for a very emotional experience. ****
Invincible-I love movies about Philly. Now that I'm so far away I get all nostalgic when I see it on the big screen. But I enjoyed this movie beyond that. Marky Mark stars as a down on his luck South Philly guy who gets to try out for the Eagles. It is basically Rocky plays football. There is a scene when wahlberg is running through Philly and I half expected him to run up the museum stairs to the Rocky Theme. But still, this movie was enjoyable. ***
Coming up next, "Hollywoodland" and "The Departed".
Grammy's Review. I've said once & I'll say it again. I love watching awards shows with my tivo. I'm actually a little bummed that I'll have to watch the Oscars tivo-less as I'll be in NJ. That means I have to watch the whole show. The Grammy's crack me up because it is not even an awards show anymore. It is a musical exhibition with 6 awards given out. But I've known that for a while so it doesn't really bother me anymore. And as most of my favorite artists were nominated, I really didn't care about the winners. I will say that I'm glad the Dixie Chicks won. I'm sure a lot of their win was because everyone likes controversy, but truth be told, I really like that song & I've heard that the record is quite good. I also thought their performance was excellent. Actually, I thought most of the performances were good. Usually there are several performances that either put me to sleep or make me cringe but I thought it was a pretty good showcase of music. Did you catch my girl Corrine Bailey Rae?
Oh and for everyone that weighed in on the "Great TV Debate of 07", thank you. Jay has purchased his 52' inch Sharp Aquos (LCD) along with a playstation 3 so we can watch those super high quality movies (although I think Jay may have just manipulated me into buying a $600 gaming system!)
Ok kiddies, that's all for now. I'll be back around Oscar time!

Sorry to disappoint, but bad idea to get the PS3 - Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii would have been much better investments, and not as much moolah. That's just my opinion, which I will post, because I was not part of the great debate. This is, of course, obvious, because had I been part of the great debate, you would not have a PS3 right now. Later skaters!
